For the most part, the West side of Maui, whether it be Kaanapali, Kapalua, Kahana, or Napili all share the same mailing city of Lahaina. These are all regional pockets of the greater Lahaina area.
Between Kaanapali and Kahana is an area known as Honokowai. Honokowai is a small strip of condos and residential homes along the coast and Lower Honoapiilani Road. This road is also known to the locals as “the low road.” This road also happens to be the home of our condo rental units in Maui Sands, Maui Sands Seaside, and Paki Maui.
The general Honokowai area is mostly known for the Kapalua Airport, Times Super Market, The Fish Market Maui, and the Farmers Market Maui.
One of the best things about renting a condo on Maui is the kitchen. Even better is being just steps away from a fresh fish market! The Fish Market Maui is a local and visitor favorite.
Fresh fish arrives daily, and you can either prepare it yourself or order a meal from the deli. Just look at these fresh ahi tuna and ono arriving!
The most popular item on the menu is the Baja Fish Tacos, we’ve had them, and they don’t disappoint! Did we mention, the Fish and Chips didn’t let us down either?
Open 11am to 7pm daily. Check out The Fish Market Maui here.
In the heart of Honokowai you will find The Farmers Market Maui that provides local, organic, and fresh products and produce. Since 2005 it’s been a special spot for locals because of the specialty vegan and vegetarian items they bring to the community.
The store also features a kitchen that serves up vegan and vegetarian dishes as well as Acai bowls and smoothies. There are pre-made options that make great grab and goes. We highly recommend the mock chicken salad!
Open daily from 7am to 7pm. Find more information on their website here.
The Honokowai Beach Park is located right across the street from The Farmers Market Maui that we mentioned above. It’s a beautiful spot to enjoy a morning cup of coffee, picnic lunch, and catch a Maui sunset dip into the Pacific Ocean. In the winter, you can do some offshore whale watching from the beach.
This is a family and pet friendly (leashes are required) park that is frequented by locals and island guests. Here the kids can play on a jungle gym, swing set, in a grass field, or at the serene beach front.
Enjoy some family time at Honokowai Beach Park between the hours of 7am to 7pm. It’s easy to get parking in the one-way lot located right off the low road. Did we mention it’s a five-minute stroll from Maui Sands, Maui Sands Seaside, and Paki Maui?
Heading north from Kaanapali and turning left onto Lower Honoapiilani Road you will see the Honokowai Market Place immediately on your right. This is where you will find Times Supermarket. Times Supermarket is the second largest chain in the state and operates 24 stores throughout the islands. We point this out because it is where you can get everyday grocery needs and it is within walking distance from our condos which makes it very convenient.
The deli at Times Supermarket features a variety of options we are most familiar with in supermarkets throughout the country, but it is the build your own deli sandwich and its pricing that makes the locals big fans.
The pharmacy is a newer addition to this Times location and gives everyone a closer place to pick up medications. With Doctors on Call Urgent Care in the same marketplace, the pharmacy comes in handy for guests.
