Whalers Village Movie Night – Saturday, March 23, 2024

Join Whalers Village for an extra special movie night celebrating Maui filmmkaing and the Maui community on Saturday, March 23, 2024. Winner of the Best Documentary Audience Award at the Hawaiʻi International Film Festival, “Uncle Bully’s Surf Skool” is a testament to the power of one person to shape a more hopeful future for the next generation. Maui surf instructor Bully Kotter grew up tough on the streets of Lahaina, and witnesses all-too-familiar struggles among his community as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and shutdown of tourism — parents without work, keiki (children) without school or structure, and ʻohana without a place to sleep at night. In the midst of unprecedented adversity, Uncle Bully stands up for his community of Lahaina, turning surf lessons into life lessons. Following the film, we invite you to remain in the ʻOhana Courtyard for a Q&A with the Maui-based cast and crew of “Uncle Bully’s Surf Skool.” *Times are tentative; film starts 30 minutes after sunset.
